Last Tuesday we learned that 14 candidates will be contesting five school board seats in three regions of the Dallastown Area School District.
Then last Thursday Dallastown's superintendent, Stewart Weinberg, put a new budget plan on the table that would not raise property taxes this year.
Are the two things related?
They most certainly are.
The new plan borrows nearly three million more dollars from the district's reserve funds and cuts 80 support positions, mainly teacher aides, from full time jobs (40 hours) to part time time jobs (20 hours).
Just a few months ago when budget plans already involved using some 1.7 million dollars in reserves, it was said that borrowing any more money would hurt the district's credit rating.
What has changed?
What has changed is the credible threat of taxpayer oriented outsider candidates who oppose Stewart Weinberg's agenda being on the ballot in the May primary...
More to come.......

The Snyder Case Is Decided And The Constitution Wins
When Albert Snyder first decided to sue the insane group known as "Westboro Baptist Church" his ex-wife told the local media she was concerned about his mental health.
There was a lot of anger and bitterness behind Snyder's decision to sue and now that he has lost his case, the anger and bitterness appear as bad as ever.
I pray for Mr. Snyder's sanity and pray that there are people close to him that can help.
I hope his legal bills will be paid for and he will be able to move on, recover and live a productive and long life.
The First Amendment stands tall at the beginning of the U.S. Constitution's Bill Of Rights and I was certain that the United States Supreme Court wasn't planning on gutting it because Mr. Snyder was emotionally hurt by the wackos of Westboro.
The 8-1 decision was a bit suprising in that Justice Samuel Alito ruled in Mr. Snyder's favor, but there's something in me that wants to see Justice Alito as a saint.
I believe in my heart that Alito has a heart for Albert Snyder and wanted to give his soul some solace through his dissenting opinion.
God Bless Al Snyder and Sam Alito.
